A Study on Life Stress and Patterns of Coping in Housewives of Military Families


Abstract
The purpose of this study are to examine the stress level induced by stressful life events among housewives of military families, and to propose ways how to cope with life stress.
@ES The results are as follow:
@EN 1. Subjects' life events scores ranged from 59.91 to 2,963.84 and the mean was 611.30. The life stress of subjects was moderate level as compared with 454.29 of normal adults group and 745.15 of patients group with digestive ulcer reported by

2. There were significant differences between marrital periods of subjects and total life stress scores, between marrital periods of subjects and undesirable events scores and between ages, characters, rank of their husbands, marrital periods
and
desirable events scores statistically. The longer married life was, the higher life stress score was.
3. Subjects used more effective long term coping pattern than short term coping pattern and used several behaviors together.
4. There were significant differences between ages, religions, characters, and long term coping pattern statistically.
In conclusion, this study shows that the identification of perceived stress level induced by stressful life events and coping patterns taken by housewives of military families provided useful information for nursing intervention.
